Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg looks ready to leave the club with a move to Marseille now advancing.

Ange Postecoglou is heading into his second season as Tottenham Hotspur boss and has made one major addition this summer.

Teenager Archie Gray – a boyhood Celtic fan – has arrived from Leeds United, joining forces with ex-Bhoys boss Postecoglou.

Tottenham have more targets on the radar but one player now appears to be closing in on a departure.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Marseille

Sources have confirmed to HITC that Marseille have reached an agreement with Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Dane is out of contract in 2025 and the two clubs are close to finalising a deal with Marseille paying an initial £12million for Hojbjerg.

Hojbjerg was not originally on Marseille’s radar, but new manager Roberto De Zerbi has instigated the move – just as he did for Mason Greenwood too.

The midfielder was in talks over a move to Turkey, with the Saudi Pro League also showing an interest, but has now agreed personal terms with Marseille.

Hojbjerg started only eight Premier League games last season and is ready to try his hand in France, just weeks after being hailed as ‘excellent’ by Spurs boss Postecoglou.

Tottenham signed Hojbjerg from Southampton in 2020 with defender Kyle Walker-Peters heading the other way.

Ironically, Tottenham have an interest in re-signing Walker-Peters this summer as Hojbjerg prepares to move on after four years in North London.

Hojbjerg was not in action for Tottenham in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.

That was mostly because Hojbjerg is still on a break after Euro 2024, but he appears to have played his final game for Spurs as Marseille close in.

Tottenham midfield targets

Hojbjerg is closing in on a move away from Tottenham and Spurs do have some midfield targets of their own.

Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey is one player Tottenham have been eyeing but an offer of £20million plus Giovani Lo Celso was snubbed in June.

Manchester United’s Mason Mount is another name on the Tottenham radar too, just a year since he left Chelsea for Manchester United.

Tottenham have also shown an interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes but the Brazilian is unlikely to leave Molineux.

Gray and fellow new arrival Lucas Bergvall are top talents in midfield but Hojbjerg’s exit may yet tempt Tottenham back into the market.
