HITC understands that Fulham are ready to walk away from their deal to land Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

The Cottagers identified the 27-year-old as a potential replacement for Joao Palhinha after he departed for Bayern Munich this summer.

HITC confirmed that Fulham made a bid for Scott McTominay last week having enquired about his availability earlier in the summer.

The bid – understood to be around £20million – was rejected by Manchester United but talks over a deal continued.

The Red Devils were open to selling McTominay but wanted closer to £30million to sell the Scotland international.

Fulham boss Marco Silva is a big admirer of Scott McTominay and pushed for his club to submit a bid, but the London outfit are now ready to drop their interest and look elsewhere.

Scott McTominay stance on leaving Manchester United

United headed into the summer wanting to keep hold of McTominay, but they knew they needed to raise cash through sales and he was one of their squad players who attracted interest.

Erik ten Hag would ideally like to keep McTominay at Old Trafford but was willing to accept the club’s decision to sell if the price was right.

HITC is told that during recent talks, it has become apparent that McTominay is still far from convinced that his future lies away from Old Trafford.

McTominay, who was called “fantastic” by ex-United star Dimitar Berbatov, is now prepared to fight for his place at United despite interest from Fulham and Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.

Fulham set sights on new target

Fulham are still in the market for a Palhinha replacement and after being priced out of a move for McTominay they have moved on to a new target.

Fulham have maintained contact with Fluminense’s Andre this summer and they could launch a move for the 23-year-old midfielder.

It is expected that Fulham will step up talks for the Brazilian in the coming days.
