HITC understands that Barcelona have seen an offer rejected for a midfielder who remains on Manchester City’s radar this summer.

Barcelona’s financial problems have been well documented with the Spanish side unable to spend the big money to sign the players that they want.

However, that has now seemingly changed with HITC understanding that the Catalan giants have made an offer for Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo, who had a brilliant tournament at Euro 2024, with Paul Merson hailing the midfielder as ‘amazing’.

The bid was understood to be worth €60million (£50 million) which was the value of Olmo’s release clause which expired earlier this summer – but it is believed they would consider a deal at that value.

Barcelona’s offer for Olmo explained

Despite Barcelona’s offer matching what RB Leipzig would want for the midfielder, the German side did not accept the offer.

This is because of the nature of the add-ons proposed by Barcelona was not satisfactory to those in Germany.

Barcelona proposed that they would not start paying until 2025 for Olmo at which point they would pay €40m (£35 million) over four years in four payments.

The remaining €20 million was made up of two potential €10m payments dependent on whether Barcelona won La Liga twice – by 2029, and the Champions League – again twice by 2029.

This offer was turned down by Leipzig and HITC understands that there remains Premier League interest in the Spanish midfielder.

Sources have told HITC that the representatives of Olmo have been in talks with multiple English sides about a potential move.

Manchester City keen on Olmo as potential Alvarez replacement

HITC understands that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are continuing to monitor Olmo’s situation at Leipzig and it is believed the talented Spaniard is a player who could arrive this summer.

This belief is heightened due to the uncertainty of Julian Alvarez’s future at the Etihad Stadium. We had previously reported that Alvarez had made his desire clear to leave City this summer.

HITC revealed that there was interest from Atletico Madrid in Alvarez and there is a belief they can land him this summer.

Leipzig, for their part, are happy to keep Olmo and they hope to bring Xavi Simons back to the club this summer, fending off Bayern Munich to land him, and they believe his return could help convince Olmo to stay.
