Tottenham Hotspur have already made changes to their midfield ahead of the new Premier League season.

This is Ange Postecoglou’s second season in charge after he guided Tottenham to a fifth-placed finish and Europa League football in his debut campaign.

From changing the mood around Hotspur Way to transforming the style of play, Spurs fans felt a sea-change within their team after several years of standing still.

You suspect the aim ahead of the new campaign will be to secure Champions League football and win that much-craved trophy.

Tottenham securing the transfer of Archie Gray helps because he is one of the best talents in the country and he has started like a house on fire in pre-season.

But with one player joining, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has joined Marseille and it has left some ‘disappointed’ with that deal.

The 2024 summer transfer window slams shut on August 30 and Spurs might just further enhance their midfield if they get who they want.

Another name linked with a move to north London is Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

Sources have told HITC that Manchester United are willing to sell McTominay this summer.

But Dean Saunders told talkSPORT (23/07/24 at 8:15 am) that they should ‘keep him’ on board as he highlighted the player’s ‘enthusiasm’ and used legendary figures such as Roy Keane as examples.

Scott McTominay urged to stay at Manchester United

“In midfield, you had to be one of the best midfield players in the world (to play for Manchester United),” said Saunders. “(You had) Roy Keane, Paul Ince, Scholes, to get into Man United’s team.

“I would keep McTominay because of his enthusiasm and young legs.”

Scott McTominay and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

It’s understandable why Hojbjerg has left because, at the age of 28, he wanted regular football and he wasn’t going to get it under Postecoglou.

McTominay is one year younger and you feel Hojbjerg is the better player out of the two, so it would be a downgrade if the Scotsman joins.

If any deal goes through, then some fans might argue that their club was probably better off trying to keep Hojbjerg because he also has leadership qualities.

But it’s going to be interesting to see what other deals Spurs conclude, with Yang Min-hyuk profiled as Tottenham close in on the teenager.
