Tottenham Hotspur are scoring goals galore in pre-season as they continue their preparations for the new Premier League season.

Ange Postecoglou is far more settled now after a hectic, entertaining and drama-filled debut campaign in England’s top flight.

They missed out on Champions League football last time out and you feel fans will be expecting them to get over the line this time around.

If pre-season is anything to go by, then supporters should get excited after Tottenham beat Vissel Kobe in pre-season friendly – that’s ten goals in three matches.

It’s not the senior players starring – and they better watch out for their starting spots – but the young guns that are firing and making the team look as entertaining as ever.

Lucas Bergvall has been blown away by Mikey Moore in pre-season, with the two teenagers providing excitement in the final third and getting fans talking.

There is also Tottenham’s new transfer capture Archie Gray – all of these players will be pushing for starting spots when the season begins away at Leicester City on August 19.

No Upcoming Fixtures

Darren Ambrose spoke about the senior players who could be pushed out of Tottenham’s XI ahead of the new season.

One man who has been a regular for Spurs since his transfer to the club in 2022 is Dejan Kulusevski.

Ambrose feels that he is now too slow to start for Spurs and he questioned if Postecoglou would want an ‘unhappy’ player on the bench, as he told talkSPORT (27/07/24 at 4:00 pm).

Dejan Kulusevski too slow to start for Tottenham Hotspur

“The consistency is the keyword there,” said Ambrose about Kulusevski. “I think when he first arrived, he came with Bentancur, and he really transformed the season.

“But then last season, he has been caught out a few times, ponders on the ball and is a little bit slow.

“Maybe someone that could become an impact player, as supposed to a starting player. Depending on who comes into the team. But would he want that? Would Ange Postecoglou want a player that’s unhappy to be on the substitutes bench? If he can get back to the original form when he first arrived. I thought he was fantastic. That’s key, you need to be progressive and to progress you need your best players.”

Tottenham’s squad

James Maddison was told two players derailed Tottenham’s season in 2023/24 and you feel to take that next step, the squad needs bulking up.

This is where Daniel Levy now needs to back his manager in the dugout because if players like Kulusevski become regular bench players, then it’s a good sign.

Yes, he has been up and down, but everyone knows his quality and that’s the level of talent Spurs need on their bench, rather than bit-part players, young kids or players who Postecoglou simply doesn’t trust to start.

And if that happens, then fans might finally get to see, since the Mauricio Pochettino days, the team take the next step forward.
