It has been more than a quiet summer transfer window for Liverpool so far.

They are yet to sign a new player and Arne Slot begins the new Premier League campaign without being able to add any of his own players.

Liverpool fans would probably tell you that a midfielder, preferably a number six, and some backline options are needed.

Instead, the two main transfer talking points for the Reds have been midfielder Martin Zubimendi and goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Sources have told HITC that Liverpool are leading the race for Mamardashvili and he is closing in on a move to Anfield.

But the biggest blow of them all has been Zubimendi turning down Liverpool when the team seriously needs a number six in the building.

You have got to feel for Slot because he hasn’t exactly been welcomed with open arms here and he is finding out how tough it is to deal with the club’s recruitment team.

Jamie O’Hara expressed how Liverpool are supposed to be a ‘top ten club’ in the world, yet they don’t sign the best players.

The former midfielder added that he wants to ‘bang my head against the wall’ because Zubimendi isn’t the first player to turn them down, as he told talkSPORT (12/08/24 at 10:15 pm).

Just go back to last summer when they wanted to sign Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, yet they ended up at Chelsea.

Martin Zubimendi turns down Liverpool

“What about Liverpool,” asked O’Hara. “Zubimendi has turned them down. I did a show last week and spoke about how good of a player he was and now he hasn’t signed.

“He has binned you and didn’t fancy it – Liverpool are classed as probably one of the biggest clubs in the world and they are getting turned down?! You don’t turn down Bayern Munich. You don’t turn down Manchester United or Real Madrid. All these players turning down Liverpool. A huge football club and an unbelievable fanbase. It’s a bit of a worry. A new manager walking in and no new signings.

“What’s going on? It feels a bit ridiculous really. Can’t get signings over the line. Who turned them down last season? Lavia and Caicedo. Do you think Liverpool can challenge? What I can’t get my head around. I bang my head against the wall thinking about it. When you see the top ten football clubs now around the world. Liverpool are in there and everywhere. You don’t get the best players!”

Liverpool ahead of new Premier League season

If Liverpool drop any early points, then you know it will be overblown and you will hear the negative noises – Jamie Carragher hit out at Gary Neville for his Liverpool and Manchester United prediction.

It’s a trip to newly-promoted Ipswich Town for the Merseyside club and there is a chance of an upset.

It will be interesting to see who plays in midfield, with Carragher expecting Wataru Endo to leave Liverpool.

Either way, they are a team to look out for because they could be one of the big talking points.
