Liverpool are yet to make a breakthrough in this summer’s transfer window and they had been hoping it would be Spanish star Martin Zubimendi.

HITC revealed earlier this month that Liverpool had received encouragement that Zubimendi would be willing to move to Anfield this summer.

Armed with the knowledge, Liverpool advanced with their move and HITC revealed that sporting director Richard Hughes was making progress.

Martin Zubimendi informs Real Sociedad he is staying put

However, HITC has been told by Spanish sources that Real Sociedad now believe that Zubimendi will be staying put at The Anoeta.

We are told that Zubimendi informed Sociedad on Monday that he would not be accepting Liverpool’s offer to move to England.

The 25-year-old midfielder and his representatives held extensive talk with Liverpool, led by sporting director Richard Hughes – who worked hard on the move.

Finances not part of Zubimendi decision

HITC understands that It soon became clear to Hughes and Liverpool that finances were not going to play a major part in any decision, so they made their offer to him based on the project they can offer under new head coach Arne Slot.

Liverpool were hopeful that their case was strong enough for them to succeed where Premier League rivals Arsenal failed earlier in the summer.

However, Liverpool have now been told that, like Arsenal, they have failed to convince Zubimendi that a move to England was the right one for him.
