HITC understands that Newcastle United have seen their third offer for Marc Guehi rejected this summer.
We had reported that Newcastle United made a third offer to Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi this summer with the Eagles demanding £65 million before the Englishman can leave the club this summer.
After a successful Euro 2024 campaign with the Three Lions, this heightened interest in the Englishman with HITC also reporting that Manchester United and Liverpool were keen on Guehi.
However, it is Newcastle who have made all of the runnings in a deal for the English defender but the Magpies have suffered another blow in the race as sources have confirmed to HITC that their offer, believed to be worth in the region of £60 million, has been turned down.
Crystal Palace’s stance on deal as Newcastle see third offer rejected
Sources have told HITC that Palace have warned their North East rivals that they will not allow the deal to be dragged into the final days of the window as they would need to secure a replacement.
We have previously reported that Palace have replacement options in Trevoh Chalobah and Maxence Lacroix but the South London club would need time to get the deal done.
The Eagles have been open to selling Guehi following his outstanding Euro 2024 campaign but Palace chief Steve Parish has made it abundantly clear that a minimum of £65 million would be needed to sign his star defender.
Parish had previously claimed clubs would have to pay superstar money for Guehi this summer and Newcastle are seemingly finding this out the hard way.
Newcastle beginning to do homework on other options
Newcastle are continuing talks with new sporting director, Paul Mitchell, making it clear to Eddie Howe and the club’s top brass that he would bring his top target to the club.
However, sources have confirmed that Newcastle are doing their homework on other options just in case that a deal for the English defender cannot be completed before the window slams shut at the end of this month.
One of those options is AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw, but as we revealed earlier this week – he may not be available any longer as Milan are ready to sell Pierre Kalulu to Juventus, which could mean the German won’t be allowed out too.
HITC had previously reported that Thiaw had agreed terms with Newcastle over a move to St James’ Park but the club pivoted to Guehi instead.
