Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has broken his silence over his future at Selhurst Park amid interest from Newcastle United.

Newcastle United made a third bid for Marc Guehi this week which Crystal Palace are understood to be considering.

Palace are understood to be demanding £65 million for the English defender but that is a figure that Eddie Howe’s side has yet to come close to this summer.

Newcastle believe that they can get Guehi for a lower price this summer despite the Englishman excelling at Euro 2024 this summer. The Magpies want another centre-back to deputise for Sven Botman and eventually partner with the Dutchman.

Guehi comments on future after Steve Parish comments

Earlier this week, Steve Parish, Palace’s chairman, commented on Guehi’s future to Sky Sports amid continued speculation that the Englishman would be moving to St James’ Park.

“If you want a superstar player, you’ve got to pay superstar money,” Parish said. “This is a player we love a lot. If we start the season with him, we’ll be a better team.”

Now, Guehi has commented on Parish’s praise for the Englishman and the defender has made it clear that he is focused on Palace’s game against Brentford.

“I am (happy). It is good to be back here, to be playing again with team-mates and a (pre-season) run-out in front of some of the fans again, so it is all positive,” Guehi told Sky Sports.

“I am humbled by that (Parish comments) – for someone who is a big part of this football club, for him to say something like that is amazing for someone like me. I am not sure I am a superstar, but it was some really kind words from the chairman.

“It is always important to focus on what is truly important and that is the game at the weekend, making sure that for the rest of the season, we are at it.”

Guehi could be key for Newcastle

It has been a frustrating transfer window for Eddie Howe’s side. We had reported that Newcastle were close to a deal for Malick Thiaw but Guehi is the man they are focusing on.

Kevin Hatchard believes Guehi could take Newcastle to the ‘elite level’ with the Englishman shining at Euro 2024 this summer.

Guehi started the Euro 2024 final against Spain and had a wonderful tournament in Germany and it is easy to see why there is so much interest in the former Chelsea defender.
