Barcelona midfielder Pedri has decided he wants to stay and sign a new contract at the Camp Nou despite recent interest from Liverpool.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who claim that Pedri is in talks over an extended stay with Barcelona.
Pedri signed a two-year deal with the option of two more when he joined Barcelona in 2020. Barca understand that Pedri is now a much different player than when he signed that deal.
They subsequently want to give him a bumper contract that reflects his importance – leaving Liverpool to miss out.
Liverpool’s interest in Pedri
The Mirror reported back in April that Liverpool had held talks with Pedri’s representatives.
Liverpool wanted to explore a deal for Pedri, seemingly realising a potential opportunity given Barcelona’s financial problems.
Yet with Liverpool deciding to be frugal over the summer window, no deal for Pedri materialised.
Liverpool may now have missed their window for the teenager, who prefers to stay at Barcelona rather than join Thiago at Anfield.

Pedri earned huge plaudits at Euro 2020
Liverpool fans were blown away by Pedri’s displays for Spain at Euro 2020 – and pundits were too.
Ian Wright called Pedri ‘quite frightening’. Alan Shearer branded him ‘incredible’ and Gary Lineker suggested that Pedri is a ‘star in the making.
Adding a midfield metronome like Pedri would be some capture for Liverpool. Add in that he is just 18 and Liverpool could have been set for years.
Barring a U-turn though, it looks like Pedri will ignore those contacts from Liverpool and instead stay at Barcelona.
