It has been a mixed start for several Tottenham Hotspur players at this summer’s major tournaments.
Some have been thriving and winning Man of the Match awards, such as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after England’s 1-1 draw against Denmark at Euro 2024.
Others are creating history because Romania’s Radu Dragusin might still be new and unknown to Tottenham fans, but he is a bit of a cult hero in his home country.
Across the continent, Christian Romero is doing what he does best as Argentina are defending their Copa America crown.
But then some are craving for minutes and starts. In the case of Spurs’ number one goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario that isn’t going to happen because Italy’s main guy is Euro 2020 winner, Gianluigi Donnarumma.
However, if you are Micky van de Ven of the Netherlands, then you are wondering what you need to do to start because his side have been pretty poor, especially from a defensive aspect.
The Dutch crawled to the knockout stages, including losing 3-2 to Austria in their final group game, with van de Ven only playing 28 minutes so far.
Even though the Tottenham speed machine hasn’t started a game yet, his fans were still chanting his name.
That was noticed by BBC commentator Jonathan Pearce during the game against Austria and it’s probably a sign of what they want.
Pearce highlighted van de Ven’s speed and how he ‘surely’ will be adding to the six caps he has earned for his country so far, as he told Match of the Day on BBC One.

“Quickest player in the Premier League they say, Micky van de Ven,” shared Pearce.
“A time of running at 37.8kmh against Brentford. Fastest ever Premier League record. The Dutch fans singing the name of van de Ven. I don’t know if you can hear that. He will surely be earning far more than his three qualifying caps than he has so far.”

If you asked Premier League fans to name their dream centre-back pairing, then these two would be regular picks, alongside Arsenal’s William Saliba.
The fact that Ronald Koeman, one of the great defenders of his time, has the option to use this but isn’t, is quite baffling.

The group games are over and now it’s time for the knockout matches, with the Netherlands facing Romania in the last-16.
One Spurs centre-back in Dragusin will definitely start, it’s just a case of whether or not van de Ven will be given the nod by his manager.
