Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven isn’t expected to feature prominently at Euro 2024 but has still been at risk of an injury.

Euro 2024 rolls on but Tottenham Hotspur don’t actually have that many players in participation over in Germany.

Pedro Porro wasn’t selected by Spain, James Maddison missed out for England, Timo Werner was overlooked by Germany and Destiny Udogie is missing Italy’s campaign through injury.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is featuring for Denmark whilst Radu Dragusin has impressed for Romania, representing Tottenham admirably on the big stage.

Others are having to be a little more patient; Guglielmo Vicario is sat on the Italy bench, knowing he probably won’t feature this summer.

Micky van de Ven is in a similar boat; he hasn’t started a game for the Netherlands despite his superb campaign for Tottenham.

Steven Bergwijn slammed over Micky van de Ven injury scare

Van de Ven did though come off the bench for three minutes against Poland, making his Euro 2024 debut in the process.

The Tottenham star may be a Netherlands ace of the future but he is currently having to bide his time under Ronald Koeman.

Tottenham fans may not see too much of Van de Ven in action this summer but will at least hope to see him avoid any injuries.

With that in mind, one story is emerging from the Netherlands – and it doesn’t paint former Tottenham man Steven Bergwijn in a good light.

As quoted by FC Update, presenter Noa Vahle watched on as Bergwijn went ‘all out’ on Van de Ven’s ankle in training, sparking an angry reaction from the Spurs defender.

Van de Ven was ‘not pleased’ with Vahle noting that Bergwijn has apologised for his aggression against the Tottenham star.

“He went all out on Micky van de Ven’s ankle,” said Vahle. “I understand Micky’s reaction. Such an action will only cost you the European Championship. Steven Bergwijn has apologised,” she added.

Bergwijn left Tottenham two years ago, returning to the Netherlands with Ajax.

The former PSV Eindhoven man didn’t make much of an impact in a Tottenham shirt, mustering just eight goals in 83 games.

Tottenham were happy to let Bergwijn go but the 26-year-old is still a part of the Netherlands squad after 29 goals in two seasons with Ajax.

Spurs fans will not be impressed with a former player going in so strongly on Van de Ven during a training session, especially after his injuries last season.

Van de Ven suffered hamstring issues last term and the last thing Spurs need is an injury before he even starts pre-season training, so Ange Postecoglou will be hoping for no further scares in the coming weeks.
