Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United will compete for a Champions League spot ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

But when you look at the current summer transfer window, the duo are having fairly different windows and are showing ambition of a different kind.

Pretty early on, Tottenham secured the transfer of Archie Gray from Leeds United and, from the get-go, he started to shine in pre-season.

But over the weekend, they took it to another level when Tottenham confirmed the signing of striker Dominic Solanke.

Meanwhile, over at St James Park, Lloyd Kelly – a free transfer – has been their main arrival so far, whilst speculation continues to rumble about Eddie Howe becoming the next England boss.

Not forgetting that key figures Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi have left the club this summer.

You look at it and think Tottenham are in the driving seat to go again and finish in the top four next season.

You sense, the signing of Solanke could be the game-changer, with the 26-year-old scoring 19 Premier League goals for Bournemouth last term.

When Solanke’s move was announced, he took to Instagram to express his delight at the transfer, with several players, including Newcastle’s Callum Wilson, reacting to the deal.

Wilson wrote in the comments section of Solanke’s IG post: ‘All the best’, whilst Tammy Abraham added ‘God’s plan’ and Arnaut Danjuma applauded the move.

Justin Kluivert told Solanke ‘All the best brother’ and Asmir Begoviic added ‘Congratulations, brother’.

Tottenham and Newcastle United next season

Spurs came out on top last term, in terms of finishing higher in the league, as the duo handed out beatings to one another at each other’s ground.

But with Ange Postecoglou’s side refreshing their squad with a few new faces already, and more could yet come, then you feel the same could happen again.

But Newcastle still have time to turn this around and bring in those players who would send a statement to the rest of the Premier League.

Sources have told HITC that Newcastle must break their club record transfer to sign Marc Guehi, with the Magpies keen on the Crystal Palace centre-back.
