Crystal Palace sources have confirmed to HITC that there is no release clause in Marc Guehi’s contract.

The 24-year-old defender has attracted plenty of interest after shining for England at Euro 2024 this summer.

HITC revealed earlier this week that Newcastle United have opened talks over a prospective deal for Guehi.

The Tyneside club are in the market for a new centre-back and Marc Guehi would be a statement signing from the PIF owned outfit and would be a huge boost to Eddie Howe’s squad.

There have been conflicting reports over the details of Guehi’s contract at Crystal Palace, but sources with knowledge of the situation insist there is no release clause.

Michael Olise’s release clause was triggered ahead of his move to Bayern Munich, and Eberechi Eze has a similar clause in his contract this summer.

But Crystal Palace are free to dictate the price of Guehi this summer amid interest in his signature.

Crystal Palace name Marc Guehi price

It was inevitable that Palace would face interest in Guehi after his remarkable performances in Germany this summer.

He was a standout performer under Gareth Southgate and interest from Liverpool and Manchester United quickly followed.

Newcastle United have now jumped to the front of the queue for Guehi, but Palace are not prepared to lose him for a small fee.

HITC is told that Palace consider Guehi one of the best in Europe for his age and therefore believe that £70million is a fair price.

Everton set a similar price tag for Jarrad Branthwaite amid interest from Manchester United this summer.

Newcastle will have to break club record

With Palace free to dictate Guehi’s £70million valuation, it means Newcastle will likely have to break their club record transfer fee if they do decide to push ahead with the move.

The most expensive signing made by the Magpies was Alexander Isak, who joined in a £60million deal from Real Sociedad in 2022.

Newcastle have spent less than £50million so far this summer in deals for Lewis Hall and Odysseas Vlachodimos. There is a feeling a marquee signing could be on the way.
