Mayor of New York City Zohran Mamdani has played a huge role in securing affordable World Cup tickets for people in his city.
The 34-year-old is a huge soccer fan and has shown his knowledge of the game throughout his time as mayor.
Bringing the World Cup to the United States has certainly brought many positives, with the USMNT gaining a lot of new fans following their solid efforts in the tournament.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were eliminated on Monday at the hands of Belgium.
Although the positives have massively outweighed the negatives, Mamdani has admitted that there is one thing he really has not enjoyed about this summer’s World Cup.

FIFA introduced hydration breaks at the 2026 World Cup due to some of the searing heats in some of the cities hosting at the tournament.
The main issue has been that every game has, therefore, had to be treated the same regardless of whether the match was being played indoors in an air-conditioned stadium.
“Hydration breaks – I’m not a fan of it. It doesn’t make sense that you have to have a hydration break if you are in an air-conditioned stadium,” Mamdani said on The Rest Is Football podcast.
“The temperatures are serious, but sometimes it doesn’t feel like these breaks have any relationship to the actual temperature. I saw someone say that if you’re going to have hydration breaks in some games, you have to have them in all of them for consistency. I guess I can hear that.”
Many outside of the US have grown frustrated with the hydration breaks because of the belief they are being used as another advertisement opportunity for US broadcasters.
The two intervals in either half are also effectively making what is typically a two half game into a four-quarter game.
It has certainly not gone down well with the soccer purists.
