Gianni Infantino has come under fire for claiming that the hydration breaks are also an opportunity for managers to pass on instructions to their players.
Hydration breaks have been the talking point of the World Cup so far as the two scheduled three minute breaks in each half have eaten into the time of the game.
Although the time is added on, some people believe the breaks aren’t necessary, especially when temperatures are in the early teens.
However, there is no surprise to see that Infantino is a fan.
FIFA president releases statement on hydration breaks
The FIFA president was in attendance to see England come from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1 thanks to a brace from Harry Kane.
Infantino was there to watch the game in Atlanta, where the standard break took place.
After the game, he released a statement in which he addressed the importance of the break, but for the sake of keeping the players healthy.
He said: “After an intense start to both halves, England used their hydration breaks well to regroup, reorganise and get on the front foot before finding the net twice in the final 15 minutes.
“These breaks are so important to give players a break during tournament play, while also allowing all coaches a dedicated moment in every match – not just depending on the weather conditions – to engage directly with their players.
“Overall, this was another fantastic FIFA World Cup contest involving two great teams – in a fantastic venue in Atlanta.”
This somewhat contradicts their previous statements and, given the criticism from people over the advertisement breaks that take place, the president’s comments aren’t going to win many over.
