Even a main event with CM Punk vs. Sami Zayn for the WWE championship wasn’t enough to keep this Monday Night Raw cameraman from watching the USMNT.

With the USMNT facing Belgium in the Round of 16, all eyes were on the FIFA World Cup on Monday night, as American fans looked to see their fate in the tournament.

But one WWE cameraman showed another level of dedication, watching the game during a live broadcast of Monday Night Raw.

WWE Cameraman watches USA vs. Belgium during Monday Night Raw

Unfortunately for fans of the USMNT and the WWE, USA’s match against Belgium aired live at the same time as the July 6th episode of Monday Night Raw from Chicago.

Even with a stacked WWE championship main event featuring Sami Zayn defending the title against a returning CM Punk, one cameraman was spotted watching the game against Belgium instead.

The cameraman was operating the main television camera for the show, known within the professional wrestling business as the ‘hard cam.’

While this clip was taken when the show was taking a commercial break on Netflix, it is presumed that the cameraman watched a good chunk of the game.

It isn’t uncommon for live sports’ broadcast operators to keep an eye on rival broadcasts, but they usually do so from the production room.

WWE Championship changes hands during Monday Night Raw

Coming into the episode, the main event was centred around Sami Zayn defending the WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes.

Zayn had surprisingly won the championship just nine days prior in Saudi Arabia, marking a win many long-time fans had been waiting for.

However, the show featured Rhodes getting incapacitated by Gunther as part of their ongoing storyline. To replace him, WWE brought back CM Punk, who is famously from Chicago, to compete.

Punk hadn’t been seen in WWE since the day after WrestleMania, where he lost his World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns.

And in his first match back, Punk has gold around his waist again, winning the WWE title from Sami Zayn in one of the most controversial booking decisions in recent history.
