Lifting the World Cup is already the footballing dream, but the FA has made sure Thomas Tuchel and his England squad have a financial incentive waiting for them if they can actually bring it home.

England and Argentina are set to lock horns on Wednesday night in the semi-final of the 2026 World Cup in New York, in what promises to be an absolute cracker.

However, ahead of Wednesday, the talk is very much around the refereeing appointment, which sees Ismail Elfath appointed as the man in the middle. It’s his past with Lionel Messi that has really caught the eye, having officiated him on several occasions in the MLS.

A win would send England to their first World Cup final since 1966, which saw the Three Lions lift the trophy on home soil at Wembley Stadium against West Germany.

But the trophy isn’t the only benefit, as there are also monetary benefits.

Aside from Lionel Messi, which Argentina player scares you the most and why?

England’s winnings if they win the 2026 World Cup

In a report from the Guardian, it has been claimed that England’s squad and coaching staff stand to split a staggering £19 million windfall from the FA by winning the World Cup.

This payout represents exactly half of the tournament’s £38 million FIFA prize fund, providing a £15 million pot for the players while netting manager Thomas Tuchel up to £3 million.

It’s a big step up from the prize money for being the runner-up, as they’re set to receive £13 million less at around £25 million for making the final.

An exit in the semi-final would see England land around £20 million for fourth place and £22 million should they win a third-placed play-off.
