West Ham United are starting to refresh their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Hammers will kick off proceedings with a difficult opening home game against Aston Villa – they secured Champions League football last term.

West Ham also have Manchester City and Chelsea in their opening month of the campaign, with Julen Lopetegui hoping to get off to a positive start.

No Upcoming Fixtures

One of the biggest issues facing the Hammers last term was their defence and the fact that they conceded 74 goals.

When the three relegated teams – Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United – have only conceded more, then you know you have big, big issues.

That’s why it’s no surprise that West Ham have completed the signing of Max Kilman from Wolves – but who will join him at the London Stadium?

Many defensive options have been put on the table for the club to sign, including Fikayo Tomori playing alongside Kilman and sources telling HITC that N’Golo Kante has been offered to West Ham.

But those are players currently plying their trade in Italy and Saudi Arabia, respectively. How about someone closer to home?

The name of Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been mentioned, with the right-back in and out of the Manchester United side.

But despite links to the London Stadium, Dean Saunders thinks Wan-Bissaka ‘isn’t good enough’ for this current Manchester United team, who produced their worst-ever Premier League finish last term when they ended up eighth, as he told talkSPORT (23/07/24 at 8:10 am).

Aaron Wan-Bissaka ‘not good enough’ for Manchester United

“If you play for Man United, in my era of playing football or now, you had to be one of the best players in the world in your position to play for Man United,” said Saunders.

“They have the biggest wage bill, so they can pay the best players – they have got Wan-Bissaka, not good enough to play for Manchester United.”

West Ham United should still push for Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Depending on the price, and you probably don’t want to go over £30 million, but this would be a very good deal for the club – Stuart Pearce has backed Wan-Bissaka moving to West Ham.

From a defensive aspect, Wan-Bissaka is one of the best in the Premier League and that would suit Lopetegui’s style.

You just imagine Jarrod Bowen ahead of the uncapped Englishman and how he would freely be able to express himself in the final third knowing the defensive might he has behind him.

The same applies to the midfield players, who haven’t been allowed to express themselves as much as they would have liked under David Moyes.
