Former West Ham United defender Anton Ferdinand has reacted as the Hammers have confirmed the signing of Wolves defender Max Kilman.

Since breaking into the Wolves first team under Nuno Espirito Santo, English defender Max Kilman has been one of the most reliable faces for the Black Country side.

Last season, under former Bournemouth manager Gary O’Neil, Kilman proved to be a crucial performer with the Englishman being praised by his manager consistently for his ability on the ball.

However, Wolves have lost the Englishman to West Ham United with HITC reporting that a £40 million offer lodged to the club from the Hammers was accepted.

Ferdinand reacts to Kilman signing

HITC has reported that the signing of a new centre-back was one of the club’s big priorities under new boss Julen Lopetegui, who managed Kilman during his time at the Molineux Stadium.

Another name the Hammers were keen on was OGC Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo but the Hammers saw their £25 million offer rejected by the French side almost immediately.

This led the East London side to focus on Kilman and the signing of the Englishman is now complete.

Anton Ferdinand, writing on X, said: “Welcome to the club.” The signing of Kilman is certainly an important one as a new centre-back was pivotal for the Hammers.

The club are open to selling Nayef Aguerd as well as Kurt Zouma so the signing of Kilman is certainly an important one.

Kilman explains decision to join Hammers

Speaking to the club’s media channels, Kilman was seemingly delighted with the move: “It’s an amazing feeling to be a West Ham United player.

“As soon as I was aware of the interest from the Club, it was an opportunity I was keen to pursue, so I couldn’t be more delighted to be here.

“I really enjoyed working with Julen during his time at Wolves – he’s a top-class coach and someone I learned a lot from, and I am confident I will continue to improve as a player under his management here.”

Kilman added: “West Ham is a massive Club and I feel this is the natural next step forward in my career.”
