Tottenham have now stepped up their interest in Wilfried Zaha – who rejected a move to Arsenal in January.

What’s the story?

Well – according to 90min – Arsenal wanted to sign the Spurs target in January, along with Liverpool and Chelsea.

However, it was revealed by The Athletic that Zaha preferred to stay at Crystal Palace for the rest of the season.

Now, with the Ivory Coast international’s contract expiring in June, Tottenham are stepping things up.

London World believe Spurs are willing to increase Zaha’s £130,000-a-week wages as they look to secure his arrival on a free transfer this summer.

It is also said that confidence is growing at Tottenham regarding a deal to sign the Crystal Palace No.11 – who the south Londoners bought back from Manchester United for just £3m in January 2015.

Zaha has scored six goals – while also providing two assists – in 19 Premier League appearances so far this season, and represents one of the most attractive market opportunities this summer.

London World add that Crystal Palace will attempt to keep their talisman in SE25.

However, Zaha is keen to play in the Champions League, so the Eagles may find it difficult to keep their academy graduate at Selhurst Park.

Tottenham should leave Zaha to Arsenal

In our view, Tottenham need to reassess their priorities.

That isn’t to say that Zaha is not a fantastic player, and it is certainly tempting to sign him on a free transfer.

However, Spurs should look to use the money they will spend on his potential wages by improving their defence, while a new goalkeeper is also needed as Hugo Lloris wanes in between the sticks.

A backline of Ben Davies, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez saw Tottenham crash out of the FA Cup on Wednesday evening following a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United.

Their other options on the bench, such as Japhet Tanganga and Clement Lenglet, aren’t much better.

Nevertheless, be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as Tottenham have held an interest in Zaha even since 2016, when they bid £12m for his signature – according to the Guardian.
