Tottenham are now focused on securing a summer move for Marcus Thuram – who rejected Chelsea in the January transfer window.

What’s the story?

Well, Spurs are now set to rival Atlético Madrid for the France international – according to AS in Spain.

It comes after French news outlet Foot Mercato claimed that Thuram rejected the chance to join Chelsea last month.

AS state that Atlético Madrid wanted to sign the Borussia Monchengladbach No.10 in January for a bargain sum due to the fact his contract expires at the end of the season.

However, after being quoted €12m (£10.7m) by the German side, the Spanish giants opted to wait until the summer.

That was a wise decision in a financial sense, although by the sounds of it, plenty of other clubs are thinking along the same lines – Tottenham being one of them.

Thuram is assessing his options – according to AS – although he is intent on joining a side who have qualified for the Champions League, so Spurs must finish in the top four if they are to have any chance of signing him.

Interest in the 25-year-old comes after he scored 13 goals in his first 19 appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach this season, also providing four assists in what has been a tremendous campaign so far.

Thuram would be ideal for Tottenham

With Heung-min Son enduring a difficult campaign along with Richarlison, Antonio Conte could do with a livewire such as Thuram arriving in N17 to shake things up.

The Frenchman is one of the most in-form strikers across Europe right now, and has plenty of time to become even better at the age of just 25.

Furthermore, Manchester United are keen to sign Harry Kane this summer, with the Daily Mail stating that Daniel Levy could now be willing to sell as the England international’s contract ends in 2024.

Therefore, Thuram could arrive as his replacement if Tottenham’s talisman does depart.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as competition for Thuram’s signature will be fierce.
