Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram has now rejected a transfer to Chelsea in the final week of the January window. The forward is also a mid-season target of Arsenal.

That is according to Foot Mercato, which reports Thuram has told Chelsea he will not join Graham Potter’s club. The 25-year-old has decided he will not leave Borussia-Park during this market and will instead wait for the summer. He will become a free agent on June 30.

Chelsea have pushed Thuram to accept a transfer to Stamford Bridge throughout January as Todd Boehly flutters his riches. But after careful reflection, the nine-cap France star has decided to wait and move in a Bosman deal. He feels it will bring more suitors to his door.

Thuram is in no rush to walk out on Borussia Monchengladbach after four-and-half-years knowing he can leave for free soon. The forward is comfortable at the Bundesliga team as he has a key role under Daniel Farke. During 15 appearances this season, he has 10 goals.

Chelsea are willing to wait for Thuram to be a free agent but hoped to secure a transfer in January. The Blues will try their luck against wider competition at the end of the campaign. While Thuram is yet to decide where he wants his future after Borussia Monchengladbach.

Arsenal transfer target Thuram rejects Chelsea for Borussia Monchengladbach

Arsenal have also eyed a transfer with Borussia Monchengladbach for Thuram in January. Milan Live cited the Gunners, plus Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, as offering the forward a route to England. It also cited options at Atletico Madrid in La Liga and AC Milan in Serie A.

While Calciomercato has reported that Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe told the Toon to target Thuram’s transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach. The Magpies also lined up a bid worth in excess of €10m (£9m). But the forward is not heading to the Premier League, yet.

Chelsea, likewise, hoped to secure a cut-price transfer with Borussia Monchengladbach as Thuram’s contract ends this summer. Ben Jacobs noted Potter’s outfit were confident they could finalise terms with Die Fohlen for only £8.5m. But he has now said no to their offer.

Clubs around the Premier League, including London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, were keen on Thuram’s transfer having shone with Borussia Monchengladbach this season. He has hit 13 goals and assisted four in 17 games across all competitions to earn vivid praise, as well.

“Thuram is a world-class striker,” Wolfsburg’s sporting director Marcel Schafer stated, via quotes by Kicker, back in October. “You have to say it like that. He has world-class stature.”
