Tottenham Hotspur have spoken to the representatives of Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah amid mixed messages over a January move.

Tottenham will surely be in the market for a new defender or two when the January transfer window opens.

Finding competition for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven is absolutely imperative after their recent absences.

Finding a suitable signing won’t be easy; Tottenham need to sign a player who would be happy being third choice but would still have the quality to shine when called upon.

That could be tricky and Tottenham are again being linked with a Chelsea player as a potential addition…

Tottenham being linked with Trevoh Chalobah again

TEAMtalk now report that Tottenham have made contact with the representatives of Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.

Spurs allegedly wanted to sound out whether Chalobah would be willing to come in as competition for Romero and Van de Ven.

This is becoming a will-they-or-won’t-they situation with Tottenham and Chalobah.

Fabrizio Romano reported on deadline day that Tottenham had approached Chelsea over a loan deal for Chalobah.

No deal was done in the end but Chalobah hasn’t played a single game under Mauricio Pochettino this season.

Chalobah has been struggling with injuries and Chelsea are ready to flog him in January.

Reports in November suggested that Tottenham were ready to abandon that interest though, fearing that his injury would keep him out until at least the end of January.

Chalobah hasn’t played at all this season and Tottenham seemingly fear that he will take a while to get back up to speed.

Maybe we are now seeing another U-turn on Chalobah though, with these new claims suggesting that contact has been made.

Chalobah will be desperate to play games having fallen down Chelsea’s pecking order but he must consider whether he would play as much as desired given the quality of Romero and Van de Ven.

Spurs would love to add a homegrown defender and reports that Chelsea are ready to slash their £25million asking price may just have tempted Tottenham to have another look in Chalobah’s direction.
