Tottenham Hotspur now appear to be backing away from a potential January move for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.
Ange Postecoglou wants a new centre back but Tottenham Hotspur are cooling their interest in Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.
That is according to a report from Sky Sports, who claim that Tottenham are now backing away from the race for Chalobah.
The 24-year-old was a target for Tottenham on deadline day with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Spurs had approached Chelsea over a loan deal for Chalobah.
Spurs were allegedly still keen to thrash out a move to sign Chalobah in January but it sounds like the interest is fading…
Tottenham Hotspur cool Trevoh Chalobah interest
Sky Sports now claim that Tottenham are backing away from the race for Chalobah’s signature.
It’s suggested that Tottenham have concerns about Chalobah’s injury situation ahead of the January transfer window.
Chalobah is out until January with a hamstring problem and will have spent six months out by the time he returns.
That is seemingly putting teams off; reports from Germany indicate that Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund feel similarly about Chalobah.
Tottenham are now believed to be looking elsewhere for a new defender, completely shelving their interest in Chalobah.
That will be a blow for Chalobah but also for Chelsea, with Mauricio Pochettino allegedly making plans to sell him in January.

Who could Tottenham target instead?
We think Tottenham will focus on a left-footed defender rather than somebody like the right-footed Chalobah.
Micky van de Ven has been outstanding this season but needs cover and competition in the left-sided centre back spot.
Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly seems to be the ideal target for us; English, left-footed, Premier League experience, still some untapped potential and coming towards the end of his contract.
Add in that he already knows Tottenham coach Matt Wells from their time together at Bournemouth and this move makes tons of sense.
Another name entered the fray on Tuesday with Tottenham allegedly scouting Union Saint-Gilloise defender Koki Machida.
The 26-year-old is another left-footer with pace and Postecoglou’s knowledge of Japanese players could make him a January target over Chalobah.
