Gabby Agbonlahor has thanked Arsenal on his Instagram story for giving Aston Villa Emiliano Martinez ‘on the cheap’.

This comes after the former Arsenal man helped Argentina win the Copa America against Brazil this morning.

The Villa shot-stopper, who secured four clean sheets during the tournament, also saved three outstanding penalties in the semi-finals.

It’s been 12 months since Villa secured Martinez’s services talents from Arsenal for £17 million (BBC Sport) and it has been one of the captures of recent years.

Even Lionel Messi is applauding the qualities of Martinez, who had years of struggles at Arsenal before winning the FA Cup two seasons ago.

Nonetheless, this is what Agbonlahor posted on his Instagram after Martinez helped Argentina win the Copa America this morning:

“Thank you @arsenal for giving us Emi on the cheap,” wrote the former Premier League striker.

It doesn’t help Arsenal’s cause that their current number one, Bernd Leno, could be heading for the exit door this summer after an indifferent 2020/21 campaign.

Whilst Leno struggled towards the back end of last season, Martinez was named Supporters Player of the Season at Villa Park.

As Martinez continues to grow as a footballer, the more Arsenal fans will express their anger and frustration at their board for letting him go.
