Martinez has played a big role in Argentina winning the Copa America.
Argentina beat Brazil 1-0 in the final.
Angel Di Maria scored the only goal of the game on 22 minutes.
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Martinez played well in the Copa America, including in the final.
The 28-year-old made a brilliant save to deny Brazil and Everton forward Richarlison’s thunderous effort.
Martinez – who joined Villa from Arsenal last summer for £20 million, as reported by The Guardian – won the Golden Glove at the tournament.
The Villa star kept four clean sheets at Copa America, including one in the final, and made four penalty saves, including three in the semi-final.
Barcelona and Argentina star Messi is pleased for Martinez and has sent the following message to the Villa goalkeeper on Instagram.
When translated from Spanish, the message reads: “Congratulations beast !!! More than deserved! You are crack.”
Martinez is going from strength to strength.
The Argentine got his chance for Arsenal towards the end of the 2019-20 campaign when Bernd Leno got injured.
The 28-year-old played well in the final weeks of that season and joined Villa last summer.
Martinez was brilliant between the posts for the Villans last season, and now he has won the Copa America and has impressed the great Messi.
