Bernd Leno could be the next man out of Arsenal’s exit door, with Mikel Arteta open to selling him, according to a report.
The Mirror claims that Arteta is looking for a more ‘consistent’ Arsenal number one and they are looking at other options in the goalkeeping department.
It is said that Arsenal, who purchased Leno for £22.5 million, will be available for a similar price or slightly less.
And if Arsenal sell the German for less than what they purchased him for then they’ll be making another potential loss on a player.
There does seem to be a bit of a clearout going at Arsenal this summer, with David Luiz to leave when his contract expires at the end of the month and Granit Xhaka seemingly days away from his own exit.
Arsenal paid over £30 million for Xhaka’s services in 2016 and, according to Sky Italia, he may well be a Roma player for £15 million.
If that is the case then it just proves the problems Arsenal have had over the years in selling players, and well simply put, not being very good at it.
But, in regards to Leno, it’s an interesting one, because last summer, they were selling Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa after his rise from the ashes.
He won Aston Villa’s Supporters Player of the Season during the recently concluded campaign, keeping 15 clean sheets and is now considered one of the best goalkeepers in the division.
If Leno does go then that Martinez sale is perhaps another call from the club that has come back to bite them in the back.
