
Things keep getting better and better for former Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martinez.
The 28-year-old helped his native Argentina to a first Copa America title since 1993 in the early hours of this morning.
Martinez and teammates – including Lionel Messi – secured a 1-0 win over Brazil in the final of the competition in Rio.
And the big South American, like he has been throughout the competition, was immense again and it has opened up some old wounds for Arsenal fans.
Remember, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta sold Martinez to Aston Villa for £20 million last summer.
Even at the time, the man had just helped the North Londoners to an FA Cup title and when Arteta decided that he would be giving Bernd Leno – who was injured – the number one shirt again, eyebrows were raised.
As it were, Martinez had a stunning first season at Villa Park and Leno had a bit of a mare under Arteta last term, it has to be said.
