Tottenham Hotspur fans are hoping they can take the next step with Ange Postecoglou ahead of the new Premier League season.
Preparations are underway and it isn’t a surprise that fans are excited by what their attack-minded manager is going to cook up now.
For Tottenham to finish fifth last season, return to Europe, improve the style of play and lift the mood, all whilst losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, is a massive plus point, but they want the Champions League now.
That requires Daniel Levy to back Postecoglou in the transfer market because there is serious competition around them.
The London club have already concluded one major incoming and that was Archie Gray securing a transfer to Tottenham from Leeds United.
But you feel, for the club to reshape the squad even further, it doesn’t just require the powers that be to bring players in and overfill the squad.
Certain players need to depart and there has been a lot of deadwood around the place.
One man who joined Spurs in 2019 was Troy Parrott and there were high expectations of him, but he only went on to make four appearances for the club, failing to score a goal.
Parrott has now joined AZ Alkmaar for £6.7 million from Tottenham, after being on loan at Excelsior Rotterdam during the previous campaign.
The 22-year-old took to Instagram to express that he is ‘really excited’ by his new chapter, with several players, including Harvey Elliott, Ryan Sessegnon, Shane Duffy and Michel Vorm, to name a few, offering their well wishes in the comments section of his post.
Troy Parrott leaves Tottenham Hotspur
‘All the best, bro,’ wrote Sessegnon, whilst Elliott added: Congrats, bro’ and Adam Idah told him ‘let’s get it’.
Celtic’s Michael Johnston messaged his fellow countryman: ‘All the best, Parrott’, Michel Vorm applauded his former teammate and Shane Duffy added: ‘Go on, bro. Smash it.’
Tottenham Hotspur need to sign a striker
That focal point is missing. Spurs scored freely last season, including seeing an improvement in Richarlison and Son Heung-min getting back to his best.
But that bonafide number nine is needed and you wonder how far the club will push to land the striker they want.
