Troy Parrott to AZ Alkmaar
Tanguy Ndombele has had his contract ripped up, Joe Rodon has been sold to Leeds United and the likes of Japhet Tanganga and Ryan Sessegnon have been let go.
Tottenham have started work on offloading players and one more departed on Saturday.
Striker Troy Parrott has completed a permanent move away from Tottenham, signing for Dutch side AZ Alkmaar on a five-year contract.
The Irishman spent last season on loan at Excelsior and hit 17 goals across all competitions.
After loan spells with Millwall, Ipswich Town, Milton Keynes Dons and Preston North End, Parrott is now leaving Tottenham for good.
Parrott has moved on for around £6.7million, helping AZ replace Vangelis Pavlidis following his move to Benfica.
Parrott will be looking to really kick on after some highs and lows in recent years and AZ certainly seem excited to have snapped him up.
Director of football Max Huiberts has told the club’s official website that he feels Parrott can ‘easily’ score goals in the Eredivisie.
Huiberts added that Parrott really made it clear the wanted to join AZ and the club are ‘convinced’ that he can be a success.
Huiberts also highlighted Parrott’s international role with the Republic of Ireland, believing that his number of caps ‘tells me a lot’ about his quality.
“It wasn’t that difficult to convince Troy, because we quickly got the feeling that he wanted to play for AZ,” said Huiberts. “Both Troy and his management made this very clear to us. He has had a good season, especially in the final phase and play-offs. He has shown in the Eredivisie that he can easily score goals.”
“We have followed him for a long time and with the information we have, we are convinced that he fits in well with AZ with his qualities. The fact that Troy has already played so many international matches at a young age tells me a lot. Among other things, that he is used to playing matches with high resistance at that level. With the arrival of Troy, we have covered the striker position again with many good options,” he added.
Parrott joined Tottenham from Belvedere back in 2017, making the move over from the Republic of Ireland as a teenager.
There was huge excitement around Parrott as he scored plenty of goals in the Tottenham youth ranks.
That didn’t really translate to first-team chances though and he departs North London having made just four senior appearances for Tottenham.
Those loan spells were a real mixed bag but Tottenham have now brought in a decent fee for Parrott and he heads off to Alkmaar to try and become a star in the Netherlands.
