Rangers have predominantly focused on signing young talents this summer but Philippe Clement now appears to be closing in on an experienced addition to his squad.
The Gers missed out on the Scottish Premiership title last season, failing to take advantage of Celtic’s slip-ups.
Philippe Clement will hoping for better this season and Rangers have been busy recruiting exciting talents for the future.
Jefte, Oscar Cortes, Clinton Nsiala, Connor Barron and Hamza Igamane have all signed this summer, with all five players 21 or under.
Goalkeeper Liam Kelly and winger Vaclav Cerny offer a little more experience but Rangers will need some leadership figures to emerge.
Ryan Jack, John Lundstram, Kemar Roofe, Borna Barisic and Connor Goldson have all moved on this summer.
James Tavernier is wanted by Besiktas too, so Rangers have lost major experience this summer and could lose more.

Rangers close in on Robin Propper
Rangers transfer chief Nils Koppen has focused on young signings but is now set to land a very experienced defender.
Sky Sports report that Rangers have now agreed a deal to sign Twente captain Robin Propper.
It’s stated that Propper is now set to undergo a medical with Rangers ahead of completing a move to Ibrox.
Propper, 30, has racked up more than 300 appearances in his career with De Graafschap, Heracles Almelo and now Twente.
Propper helped Twente finish third in the Eredivisie last season and has even played alongside Cerny with the Dutch side.
The Dutchman will bring valuable leadership to Rangers and he has previously been praised in the Dutch media.
“In these types of matches, he is on his feet nine times out of ten, then he has something extra. He reads where the balls are coming so well, he is not just blindly following his man. He is constantly stepping in well positionally and being busy. I think he had the most ball wins at FC Twente and good forward passes,” said pundit Marciano Vink after a display against Feyenoord in January.
“He has developed incredibly since he came from Heracles to FC Twente. I wouldn’t have expected that from him,” said fellow pundit Kenneth Perez.
Propper is clearly highly rated in the Netherlands and Rangers will hope to see him become their new defensive leader.
Rangers transfer news
Rangers are still looking for other signings and HITC understands that two strikers are on the radar.
Scotland internationals Lyndon Dykes and Lawrence Shankland are both wanted at Ibrox as Clement and Koppen chase a new striker.
Rangers could miss out on one target though as Porto talent Goncalo Borges looks set for Strasbourg this summer.
In terms of outgoings, playmaker Todd Cantwell wants to leave Ibrox and a departure appears to be in the pipeline.
