Rangers are in the market for a new winger but their approach for Gonaclo Borges is yet to pick up any pace.

Philippe Clement has wasted no time improving his squad this summer with seven new signings arriving at Ibrox.

Rangers are in the market for a new striker and a new winger, and Todd Cantwell’s bombshell announcement that he has handed in a transfer request only adds to the urgency.

Gers have completed a loan deal for Vaclav Cerny to bolster their winger department, but they first attempted a bid for Porto’s Goncalo Borges.

According to Portuguese outlet Record, Rangers and Strasbourg submitted bids for the 23-year-old winger but both were rejected by club president Andre Villas-Boas.

New £8m bid for Goncalo Borges

While Rangers have cooled their interest in Goncalo Borges after their bid was rebuffed, O Jogo now report that Strasbourg have tabled a second bid which is worth 10million Euros (£8million).

Strasbourg are owned by BlueCo, the same company that holds a stake in Premier League side Chelsea.

As stated in the report, a move to Strasbourg would provide Borges with a bridge to join the Blues in the future.

However, despite Porto wanting to raise funds this summer, Borges has objected against a move to Strasbourg.

It adds that Borges is “determined to succeed” at Porto, closing the door on Rangers making another move for him this summer.

With Rangers looking to claw back at Celtic and challenge for the title next season, it is blindingly clear that they will need more signings that can add to their goal threat.

A move for Lawrence Shankland remains on the cards, while HITC understands that Rangers have also shown an interest in QPR’s Lyndon Dykes.
