Liverpool have been joined by Real Madrid in the race to sign Stanislav Lobotka, a player who has been compared to Luka Modric.
What’s the story?
Well, both Jürgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti are fighting to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, with Marca in Spain under the impression that Real Madrid are wary of the pulling power Liverpool have.
In that respect, it seems whoever fails to sign the England international will make a move for Lobotka as an alternative.
Foot Mercato believe Real Madrid have sent an enquiry to Napoli about the Slovakia international, who Ancelotti signed from Celta Vigo during his time in Naples.
Napoli responded to that enquiry by telling the Spanish giants they want at least €60m (£52m) for the 28-year-old, who Football Espana have compared to Croatia international Modric as a result of their similar playing style.
Foot Mercato add that Lobotka recently signed a new five-year contract at Napoli, hence their significant asking price, so Real Madrid and Liverpool will find it very hard to sign him.

It was Tutto Mercato Web who revealed that Klopp wants the Napoli No.68 at Anfield, as he attempts to orchestrate a midfield overhaul on Merseyside.
In Real Madrid’s case, they are doing what Liverpool should have done years ago, signing replacements for those they are expecting to wane in a year or two, such as the 32-year-old Toni Kroos and 37-year-old Modric.
Liverpool will struggle as Real Madrid enter race
In our view, Liverpool will now find it very hard to sign Lobotka as Real Madrid express interest.
Aside from the fact Real Madrid are wealthier, the Slovakian will also be tempted to reunite with Ancelotti, who he enjoyed a strong relationship with at Napoli.
Furthermore, the uncertainty at Anfield right now, caused by Fenway Sports Group’s decision to put Liverpool up for sale, as well as the resignations of Julian Ward and Ian Graham, may put Lobotka off.
Having said that, anything can happen in football, so make sure to keep an eye on this situation.
