According to The Athletic, Nottingham Forest are keen to sign Keinan Davis on a permanent basis, after he helped them win promotion to the Premier League.

What’s the story?

Well, the £45,000-a-week man became something of a fan favourite at the City Ground, following his arrival on loan from Aston Villa in January.

Davis scored five goals in 15 Championship appearances for Forest, while also providing two assists – now, Steve Cooper wants to sign him on a permanent basis.

The Athletic believe the 24-year-old is due back at Bodymoor Heath for pre-season training under Steven Gerrard, although it is not said whether he is part of the first-team plans at Villa Park.

Having said that, Gerrard did want to sign Davis during his time at Rangers, so he may want to give him another chance at Aston Villa.

Ultimately, it will be up to the striker himself. If he requests a move back to Nottingham Forest, we can’t see Gerrard standing in his way – if he did, it would be very harsh.

In our view, Cooper has a good chance of re-signing Davis, given the quality of options Gerrard has at his disposal in the Midlands.

The Villans currently have Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins in attack, while they are also in contact with Luis Suarez.

With all due respect to Davis, if he wants regular first-team football, he should leave – we can’t see a way in which he gets ahead of names such as those.

Davis – who models his game on Romelu Lukaku – would surely have a far more enjoyable campaign back at the City Ground, in what will be Forest’s first taste of the top-flight in 23 years.

Keep an eye on this situation, as we believe the deal will happen.
