Multiple Championship sides would like to sign Keinan Davis on loan in the January transfer window, but he is unlikely to leave Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa, according to The Athletic.
Davis has only featured for 11-minutes of first-team football so far this season ahead of the Villans’ meeting with Manchester City on Wednesday night. He has also only played twice in the Birmingham outfit’s Under-23s, in efforts to regain fitness after a knee injury.
The blow stopped Davis leaving Aston Villa for Stoke on loan in the last transfer market, per Birmingham Live. A move he sorely needed after a bit-part role under Dean Smith last term.
Davis made his only Premier League start of the season against Everton in May, during his 14th of 15 appearances. He also spent 18 games as an unused substitute through the term.
The striker would have hoped for a better campaign this season, but Danny Ings’ arrival and his injury put an end to Davis’ chances. He made his term debut from the bench in Smith’s last match in charge at Southampton last month, but has not played a single second since.
Gerrard will recall Davis to the Aston Villa bench against Manchester City, however. He will list the 23-year-old on the bench to support Ollie Watkins as Ings is sidelined with an injury.
Ings’ ongoing issues with a hamstring injury downplay the chances of Aston Villa granting a loan transfer for Davis. Gerrard is also a big fan of the rarely-seen £45k-a-week forward.

Gerrard has long admired Davis’ potential and now has the chance to work with the striker at Aston Villa. He also explored a deal to sign the former England U20 international while in charge of Rangers and is likely to reject any advances amid the vast Championship interest.
Ings’ injury leaves Gerrard light of backups who can replace Watkins if needed in the Villans’ attack. So, has promoted Davis into the role of primary understudy now that he is fit again.
But if Gerrard cannot offer Davis regular minutes, he may look to join a second-tier side in a January transfer. He has long held an audience of potential suitors in the division, who could guarantee a chance to play consistently.
