According to the Telegraph, Brennan Johnson is now set to stay at Nottingham Forest, despite interest from Leeds and West Ham.

What’s the story?

Well, the 21-year-old impressed a number of Premier League clubs with his performances last season, as Nottingham Forest won promotion to England’s top-flight.

Tottenham are also said to be interested in Johnson, with Everton believed to be monitoring the situation as well.

Now, however, the Telegraph are claiming that the Wales international has agreed terms over a new contract with Nottingham Forest, with a long-term deal set to be signed.

That is major news for Steve Cooper, to say the least.

Johnson put his name up in lights last season by scoring 19 goals in 52 appearances, while also providing nine assists.

Even David Beckham rates the Welshman highly, as he said “what a player” after the rapid forward secured promotion via the Championship play-offs.

Unfortunately for them, Jesse Marsch or David Moyes will not be benefitting from Johnson’s talents next season, as he is now ready to commit himself to Nottingham Forest.

Leeds & West Ham may kick themselves

In our view, Leeds and West Ham may regret not signing Johnson while he is valued at just £20m.

The Nottingham-born forward has the talent to shine in the Premier League, and if he does impress next season, his value could quite easily skyrocket to somewhere in the region of £60m.

Just look at Raphinha, who is on the verge of a £55m move to Chelsea after just two seasons with Leeds.

In Johnson’s case, however, he is a homegrown player, and also much younger than the Brazilian, two factors which should contribute to his value soaring with one strong season in the Premier League.

Only time will tell, but we think the Welshman will be a big hit next term.
