Reported Liverpool target Martin Terrier is set to sign a new contract with Rennes despite plenty of interest this summer, with the winger even being subject to an offer from Tottenham.

According to SRO, the 25-year-old winger is set to extend his stay with the Ligue 1 side until 2025 after publically coming out that he wished to remain with Rennes for the year, with Terrier set to sign a new contract that will all but rule out a transfer this summer.

Reportedly valued at €40m (£34m), Terrier was one of the best players in France last season as the forward bagged 21 goals and seven assists in all competitions, yet despite this incredible form, the attacker is set to remain with Rennes and sign a new contract with the Noir et Rouge.

Terrier has been chased all summer by some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Liverpool the main side tracking the 25-year-old as the Reds’ eyed the Frenchman as a replacement for Sadio Mane, with Tottenham even reportedly making an offer for the attacker in recent weeks.

Indeed, Terrier would have been perfect for a move to the Premier League at this stage of his career, with the winger coming off his best season ever in Ligue 1, and with sides like Liverpool and Tottenham keen to sign a wide-attacker, the Rennes star fits the bill perfectly for what the Premier League titans need.

Alas, the attacker has made the stunning decision to remain in France with Rennes, with Terrier set to sign a contract with the ambitious Ligue 1 side until 2025 in a move that could see the Roazhon Park side bank a huge fee for the attacker in the coming transfer windows.

After the year Terrier had with Rennes, it seemed almost guaranteed that the winger would move to one of Europe’s biggest sides with the 25-year-old in the form of his life and subject to offers from the Premier League, which is why the decision to stay in France and pen a new deal is such a surprise to many.

After all, whilst Rennes will compete in Europe this season, Terrier is a player who wants to play at the top, and the forward could have won a move to a UEFA Champions League side this summer, yet football is a romantic’s game, and the winger remaining with Bruno Genesio for one more year is a decision many fans can get behind.
