The Philadelphia 76ers have not finished constructing their roster for the 2026-27 season following LeBron James’ arrival.
The 76ers have officially signed James to a two-year deal, while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is also expected to join them.
Caldwell-Pope, who won a title with James in Los Angeles, is a free agent after agreeing to a buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies.
However, KCP cannot move to Philadelphia until they create a roster spot by clearing an existing player.
The 76ers reportedly have two players in mind who could make way for Caldwell-Pope to join LeBron in Philly.
Which two Philadelphia 76ers players are under threat?
The 76ers are reportedly prepared to lose Johni Broome or Jabari Walker in return for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
Jake Fischer has reported that the 76ers have placed Broome on the trade block, despite drafting him just last year.
However, interested teams have been asking Philly to include some “sweeteners” in the deal, making it less appealing.
Alternatively, the Sixers could waive and stretch Broome’s two-year, $4.7 million rookie contract.
The other options would be to waive Jabari Walker’s $2.6 million deal, though the Sixers would “prefer” to keep him on the roster.
Although it is inconvenient, at least Philadelphia have several ways to make the KCP signing happen and appease LeBron.
Caldwell-Pope is no longer the same prolific shooter he once was, but perhaps he would improve by reuniting with James.
