Tottenham Hotspur fans want new signings but there will also be a real focus placed on moving fringe players out of the club.

The new Premier League season is just around the corner but there is also just over a month of the summer transfer window left to go.

Tottenham Hotspur still have plenty of work to do with European football returning to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Incomings have mostly featured teenage talents so far with Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Yang Min-hyuk all signing.

More signings are still needed but Tottenham need to offload some bit-part players in order to create room – both in the squad and on the payroll.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg completed his move to Marseille last week and was welcomed with flares upon landing in France.

Pedro Porro on Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

Tottenham have now confirmed another departure with Bryan Gil moving on.

Speculation last week suggested that Gil was wanted by Girona after their qualification for the Champions League.

The Spaniard was even left out of Tottenham’s squad for the pre-season trip to Asia.

Tottenham were happy for Gil to explore transfers away from the club and his move has now been confirmed.

Gil has joined Girona on loan for the 2024-25 season, meaning he will now be in line to play Champions League football.

This is the third loan spell back in Spain for Gil having previously linked up with Valencia and Sevilla.

The likelihood is that Gil has now played his final game for Tottenham as there just doesn’t seem to be a way back under Ange Postecoglou.

Few Spurs fans will be too sad to see Gil move on but Pedro Porro has taken to Instagram to share his reaction the move.

Commenting on Girona’s announcement of the deal, Porro – a former Girona man himself – stated ‘what a player for the family’.

Porro added ‘do it, magician’, wishing Gil all the best as he makes another return to Spain.

Some may be a little confused by the ‘El Mago’ – ‘magician’ – nickname but it’s a name often given to Spanish playmakers.

Porro has even called Gil a ‘magician’ in the past and Girona will be hoping that he lives up to that moniker.

Gil needed to go

There is real technical ability in Gil and we can understand why Fabio Paratici wanted to sign him back in 2021.

The idea will have been to develop Gil into a player like David Silva – who also went by ‘El Mago’ – in terms of being a slight but skilful left-footed playmaker.

Silva managed to cope with the rough and tumble of the Premier League but Gil never really managed to do the same.

Paratici did some fine work at Tottenham but stumping up cash plus Erik Lamela for Gil doesn’t look too good now.

Gil simply had to move on for first-team action and the hope from all corners is that Gil will land a permanent move off the back of this latest loan spell.
