A round up of transfer news from the past 24 hours surrounding Newcastle United.

Reading manager Jaap Stam has confirmed his side’s interest in Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow in an interview with The Reading Chronicle.

Darlow was earlier named as a £5 million target for Reading by The Mirror, with the Royals set to lose Ali Al Habsi to Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal.

“We have a list with eight possible goalies,” Stam said. “There is Darlow.

“We have to look at if we can afford the fees and the wages. It’s never going to be easy to bring in someone of the same or perhaps even better quality than Ali.”

It is widely acknowledged that Benitez is looking to strengthen his goalkeeping options this summer, which means Darlow could be allowed to follow Matz Sels out of St James’ Park.

From Berkshire to Portugal now, where A Bola reports that a club-record £35 million bid has been made by Newcastle for Sporting CP striker Bas Dost.

The Dutchman scored more league goals [34] than games played [31] last season, although whether the Magpies can afford to spend such an amount on one player remains to be seen.

It seems unlikely, based on what O Jogo is saying about Newcastle’s pursuit of Andreas Samaris, which is that Benitez is keen to offload players before bidding for the Benfica midfielder.

The report adds that the Magpies do not need to balance the books, but wish to move on those surplus to requirements before fully assessing their needs.

According to The Chronicle, however, Newcastle have an offer on the table for an unnamed creative midfielder.

And finally, weeks after being linked with a move to Stoke City, The Mirror reports that local lad Paul Dummett will commit to a new five-year deal on Tyneside, alongside fellow United defender Jamaal Lascelles.
