Newcastle also have an interest in bringing in wingers, and Benitez is said to have made enquiries.
The Magpies are yet to submit a proper offer for a wide-man, but Benitez is known to want to strengthen his attacking options.
Benitez has been said by The Sun to be growing frustrated with Newcastle’s lack of success in the transfer market, so the Spaniard will want to have more luck with his current enquiries and bid.
Newcastle had wanted to have five new signings snapped up before pre-season began, according to the Chronicle, but they look set to miss out on completing that aim.
