A round-up of Monday’s transfer news involving Newcastle United.

Newcastle United appear to have made a breakthrough in their search for a new winger.

According to Sky Sports, The Magpies have agreed a fee in the region of £12 million to sign Jacob Murphy from Norwich City.

The Northern Echo had reported previously that Rafa Benitez’s side had been told to double their opening offer of £8 million, but the two clubs appear to have struck a compromise.

And that’s just as well, with Yoan Gouffran’s transfer to Goztepe confirmed – bizarrely – by the Turkish side earlier on Monday.

Nevertheless, Newcastle aren’t ready to stop there, it seems, with Benitez also pursuing a deal for Liverpool wide man Sheyi Ojo, according to The Chronicle.

However, contrary to what was claimed by The Sun on Sunday, it is suggested that a loan move – as opposed to a £10 million permanent transfer – is currently being discussed for the player, for whom Liverpool are said to want guarantees of regular first team football.

According to Wales Online, another attacking midfield player, Jonathan Viera, is also on Newcastle’s radar, along with that of Everton and Swansea.

Swansea are said to have had an offer of £21.9 million turned down by Viera’s employers, Las Palmas, who are holding out for £26.3 million – which one suspects will also rule out the Magpies.

And finally, Ali Al Habsi’s transfer from Reading to Al Hilal could see the Royals step up their interest in Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow, according to The Reading Chronicle.

Darlow was last week claimed to have been deemed surplus to requirements by Benitez, and also has interest from Middlesbrough and Aston Villa.
