Newcastle United are yet to make a statement signing this summer that matches their owner’s ambition.

The Tyneside club have made five new signings, but none of their new arrivals are exactly players that could fire them back into the Champions League.

The £28million deal for Lewis Hall looks like good business, but the 19-year-old is far from a finished product. The same can be said for William Osula.

Two areas that Newcastle United are looking to improve is at centre-back and on the wing, specifically a replacement for Miguel Almiron.

They are already making moves to address those positions with HITC revealing that Newcastle have submitted a third bid for Marc Guehi.

As for the winger position, Newcastle have identified a number of targets, one of which was West Ham‘s Jarrod Bowen.

Newcastle United latest on Jarrod Bowen

With Almiron’s time on Tyneside coming to an end, Newcastle have been on the lookout for wingers that could add to their star-studded attack.

Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon have cemented their place in Eddie Howe’s starting lineup, but the spot on the right wing is still up for grabs.

HITC revealed that Bowen had little interest in moving to Newcastle this summer, but interest from The Magpies had not gone away.

Newcastle were hoping to lure Bowen away from the London Stadium, but their chances of getting a deal over the line are now dead and buried.

Any hope Newcastle still had of landing Bowen this summer has just been thrown out the window.

The London outfit announced on Thursday morning that Bowen has been appointed as the new club captain.

Bowen, who was branded “unbelievable” by Jurgen Klopp, has now all but confirmed he is staying put with the Hammers after taking the captain’s armband.

A move to St James’ Park never seemed realistic, but now Bowen has put the final nail in the coffin.
