According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle and Leeds are interested in signing Leon King from Rangers.

What’s the story?

Well, the reliable Italian journalist believes a number of Premier League sides – including Manchester United – are monitoring the Rangers wonderkid.

King – who is just 18 years of age – started against Liverpool in the Champions League last week, delivering a decent performance as Rangers suffered a narrow 2-0 defeat at Anfield.

The Scotland Under-21 international gave a good account of himself, and Romano believes scouts from Manchester United, Newcastle and Leeds have been keeping a close eye on his displays.

King has played a significant role under Giovanni van Bronckhorst this season, despite being born in 2004 – the teenager has already made ten appearances across all competitions.

The centre-back will enter the final 12 months of his contract at the end of the season with his current terms expiring in July 2024, hence why Manchester United, Newcastle and Leeds are lurking.

Newcastle & Leeds face competition for Rangers wonderkid

Romano also mentioned that “many clubs” are keen to sign King in addition to the ones he mentioned.

Going off past reports, Newcastle and Leeds will face even fiercer competition than just Manchester United if the defender does become available.

The Daily Record revealed that Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City were all keeping a close eye on King as Rangers tried to tie him down to a professional contract at the age of 15.

Elsewhere, it was the Scottish Sun who claimed that Arsenal are fans of the Scottish prodigy.

It was also said that Tottenham wanted to secure his signature, according to the Daily Mail.

Clearly, King is well known to the Premier League’s elite, so Rangers fans should expect a few bids for his services.
