- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
HITC understands that Manchester United are progressing in talks with Paris Saint-Germain for midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
We reported over the weekend that Ugarte’s agent, Jorge Mendes, was confident that his client would end up at Manchester United by the end of the summer transfer window.
Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed via Mendes that they are now open to the idea of a loan but they insist that they would want it to be an obligation-based deal.
United are in need of midfield additions this summer with potentially two or three departures from Old Trafford in that department with just under two weeks before the window slams shut.
However, United are hoping that Ugarte will be the man they can sign this summer.

Talks are progressing for Ugarte deal
If United are unable to free up room in their squad as they hope, then they still want to progress with Ugarte, HITC has been told.
Mendes has been tied up hammering out the Joao Felix deal, but now that is in place with Chelsea he can concentrate his efforts on Ugarte and HITC is told talks are progressing.
As HITC previously revealed Ugarte is United’s first-choice midfield target this summer and they have been impressed by the player’s desire to move to Old Trafford.
We had reported about United’s interest in Ugarte back in June and there finally seems to be some progress on that front.
During the 2024 Copa America, El Pais described the midfielder as ‘outstanding’ and he could be exactly what United need this summer.
Sales in midfield may also be key for the Red Devils with time running out for United to make a profit in that department.
Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen can leave this summer
Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay have been told they can leave, with the latter being the subject of numerous approaches this summer from Turkey, to Italy to Fulham.
McTominay moving to Fulham is no longer an option with the Cottagers striking an agreement with Burnley for the signing of Sander Berge.
However, Antonio Conte’s Napoli remain interested in McTominay but sources have told HITC that the Italian side would not push for the Scotsman unless he made it clear he wanted the move.
Another midfielder who could depart Old Trafford this summer is Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.
Talks with the Saudi Pro-League over Casemiro stalled weeks ago and although Middle Eastern clubs can still sign him after this month, as their window does not close until October, United would still need his replacement in place and they want Ugarte.
