Newcastle star Kieran Trippier has recently been linked with a move away from St James’ Park, with Turkish clubs interested in his signature.
It was a very frustrating transfer window, to say the least for Newcastle United fans this summer.
Toon supporters watched promising stars Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh exit Tyneside due to PSR restrictions, meanwhile, Eddie Howe failed to land his top target Marc Geuhi.
The Magpies were also rocked by the news that Kieran Trippier reportedly wanted to leave Newcastle in the final days of the window.
Many expected that news to fade away after the window slammed shut, but rumours surrounding the full-back’s Toon exit persisted, with a surprise move to Turkey on the cards.
Kieran Trippier set to stay at Newcastle United
It was reported last week that Trippier was ‘waiting’ for a move to Besiktas, that move however now looks off the table as the former England international now looks set to remain at St James’ Park.
The 33-year-old was reportedly wanted by a number of Turkish clubs, with Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce enquiring about Trippier, as well as Eyupspor.
Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett however has recently confirmed that the four Super Lig clubs who wanted to take the Magpies man on loan, have all given up.
Despite Trippier’s Newcastle stay being confirmed, it only seems like a matter of time before the former Spurs man exits the north-east, with Toon boss Howe seemingly favouring Tino Livramento at full-back in recent times.
Who should be Newcastle’s right-back? Livramento or Trippier?
Livramento has started all three of Newcastle’s Premier League fixtures so far, with Trippier’s only start this season coming against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.
If Trippier’s lack of game time is anything to go by, it seems Howe is now opting for a younger model at right-back. Is that the correct decision though? Let’s look at the stats.

The stats show that Livramento trumps Trippier when it comes to defensive contribution but the 33-year-old ultimately still outweighs his younger counterpart when it comes to the attacking front.
With age not on his side, it would be no surprise to see Trippier’s stats slowly worsen meanwhile Livramento has tonnes of room for development, only being 21-years-old at the time of writing.
