England manager Thomas Tuchel wasn’t happy with his team’s performance in the World Cup quarter-final, something that then upset star midfielder Jude Bellingham.
Bellingham scored a brace in a 2-1 AET win for England to advance to the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
However, Tuchel’s disappointment with how the match went didn’t sit well with Bellingham, given the weather conditions they dealt with.
Jude Bellingham is not pleased with Tuchel’s tough love
Tuchel’s fiery post-game interview saw him make it clear that he was displeased by the team’s performance and effort in what could’ve been a Cup-ending loss.
Bellingham wasn’t having it, coldly asking his manager to play in the sweltering conditions in Miami before making the demands he is.
“Maybe he doesn’t know what it’s like to play in those conditions against Haaland, Odegaard, Nusa, Sorloth, that’s not an easy team to play against. We’ve tried to create a positive environment, and we should continue that going into the final four. I can’t speak highly enough of the lads.”
Bellingham stepped up to score the goals that helped England advance, but the scrappy level of play without the usually high work rate that Tuchel’s England deploys was noticeable.
The energy in the dressing room has been positive the entire tournament, as Bellingham alluded to, with senior players even pulling pranks on Tuchel.
But the manager also needs to be more understanding and supportive to ensure his players are locked in on the mission instead of resenting him.

England await the winner of Argentina vs. Switzerland in the semi-final, with the game also headed to extra time after ending regular time with a 1-1 draw.
Regardless of who their next opponent is, it’s going to be a tough task if the players and Tuchel aren’t on the same page.
