Mina Rzouki has shared that Inter Milan fans are threatening a ‘backlash’ amid rumours that Tottenham transfer target, Alessandro Bastoni, could be sold this summer.

The Italian journalist added that Bastoni is a ‘fan favourite’ at Inter and the fans have come out and said ‘we will stop coming to support you’ if the 23-year-old is let go, as she told Sky Sports.

With Antonio Conte in the Tottenham dugout, it was obvious he, and the club’s sporting director, Fabio Paratici, were going to fish in the Italian transfer market.

Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski arrived during the January transfer window and helped Spurs to Champions League football, with Ivan Perisic signing this summer.

Rumours did surface that Bastoni could be another man on the north London club’s transfer wishlist, as they look to bolster their backline.

Well, if that were to happen, then Rzouki made it clear that it wouldn’t go down well with the Inter faithful, but she can’t see Bastoni leaving, either way.

“At the very start, we felt this was a sacrifice that Inter would need to make on a financial level, considering where they are,” said Rzouki.

“They have been hit hard and have been sort of held hostage by their financial situation, despite the fact that they want to start this legacy of winning trophies.

“They missed out narrowly to AC Milan to the Scudetto, but Bastoni is a firm fan favourite.

“He is Italian. The future of the Italian backline, so it looks like he won’t be the man that will be sacrificed. I think they will do what they can to sell what they need to sell, in order to keep someone as important as Bastoni.

“The fans have come out and rallied and said ‘if you sell him, then we will stop coming to support you’, so there is a lot of backlash just simply over the idea of letting Bastoni go. He really loves Inter. I don’t think he will leave.”

BASTONI WOULD BE A STATEMENT SIGNING FROM SPURS

If Spurs manage to lure Bastoni to Spurs, then it would be a statement signing for the club.

The Italy international would fit right into Conte’s back three and start alongside Eric Dier and Cristian Romero.

Whilst Ben Davies has made quite the impression, for both club and country, in recent times, Bastoni would be a step up and he would provide much-needed competition.

Either way, with Champions League football returning to one part of north London next season, Spurs will feel they can use it to lure the elite players to the club.
