Leeds United fans are now sweating at the prospect of losing key players.
This would have been a difficult week for all associated with the club because not many know what is coming next.
Leeds United’s play-off final loss to Southampton will linger over their heads and in the background for a little while longer.
But given that Leeds will be spending another season in the Championship, it means they will have to sell players this summer, even the club’s chairman has spoken out about it.
Name your players. The electric goal machine Crysencio Summerville, the flamboyant trickster Georginio Rutter, the versatile Ethan Ampadu and the ever-popular Archie Gray.
At least some, and probably many, of these players could be headed for the exit door and Daniel Farke could be without their services next season.
Some sales are inevitable, such as Summerville because of the price he is going to fetch in the transfer market.
But there are others who Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist have urged to stay, as they sent out a crying plea to Gray to do just that, as they told talkSPORT (29/05/24 at 8:55 am).
The 18-year-old is a boyhood fan, the player fans can relate to and he has been a bit of an unsung hero for the club this season.
You could agree that his possible sale would hurt the most because of what he means to the club, but Stelling and McCoist feel he is better off developing at Elland Road.
Archie Gray urged to stay at Leeds United
“Every Leeds fan hopes they keep Archie Gray,” said Stelling.
McCoist agreed: “Archie Gray is the one. I know he was playing in the middle of the park and he has been moved back to the right-back position. I would love to see him stay at Leeds. Maybe a year or 18 months (then leave).”
Stelling added: “I would love to see him stay at Leeds for a little while developing. I think with Bamford, injuries have been a problem with him. I would be interested to see what happens with Georginio Rutter as well. Eight goals this season. He has had a good season. They signed him from Hoffenheim. If they do need to raise funds, would they look to be selling him back to Germany? I don’t know. Time will tell.”

Transfer interest in Archie Gray
The rising English star can operate in the middle of the park and at right-back. There was a reason why Marcelo Bielsa was so keen to give him his first chance.
Football is in Gray’s blood and you can just sense that he has an unbelievable future in the game.

Sources have told HITC that Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich are targeting Gray for a transfer and that’s something that could be too good to turn down.
Germany has proven to be a great ground for developing young English players in recent times, just look at Jadon Sancho and most importantly Jude Bellingham.
